R.I.P Heinen Creative 1.0

Heinen Creative 1.0 was actually my first experience with web design. At the time, I simply needed to get a site up for my business. My background was in Industrial Design, not web design. As I worked on the site I became fascinated with web design. My geeky engineering half of the brain was engaged by the computer logic, while the creative half of my brain could now express itself in many new mediums. Working on that site was a great learning experience.

The Original Site

Heinen Creative before it's new facelift.

Now, a year and a half later, I had to upgrade to something that reflected my current abilities. In addition to some fancy JQuery black magic, I have incorporated a blog into my new site (in case you haven’t figured that out already). I am looking forward to sharing with you all the design related things that get me excited. I apologize in advance for their random nature, but I have design ADD. I see something cool (and probably shiny) and I have to learn how it works.

In addition to looking for new trends, I also like to make processes more efficient. I am a work smart and not work hard kind of guy. But often finding the smart, “quick”, way to accomplish a task takes twice as much time to discover. Who knows, maybe the blog will even help people solve problems that I have faced.

Enough about my grandiose plans for my website; please check it out and leave comments. If you would like for me to touch on a specific topic in my blog, feel free to send me an email. You can get in touch with me on my contact page.

  • Hello, how are you? I really like ur blog! I wonder if u might assist me (im certain other subscribers may also be interested). I would also like to get into creating a blog also and I currently use a blog with Word Press, but it is very confusing for me to use and I would very much like to try to get some good training guides or courses (preferably ones that are free) that can hopefully assist me in using Word Press correctly. As a word press web master yourself, do u perhaps know where i could find online tutorials to do this? Thanks Alot!

Thanks Brett, I am glad you like my site! I know what you are going through with WordPress, it is really frustrating when starting out. Luckily, there are a lot of good resources out there for you.

If you haven’t checked it out already, WordPress.org has a lot of great free documentation on their site. You can find it all in the “Docs” tab. Here is an article for people new to WordPress:

I personally like using Lynda.com because of its huge library of tutorials. It costs ~$25 a month, but it is well worth the money and I consider it a valuable resource.

Eventually, you might want to make your own custom designs for your blog. Web Designer Wall has a great tutorial for creating your own theme:
